Do you want to make more money? Get promoted? Land that new job you always wanted? Or something else?

You wouldn’t be alone.

In our latest blog, we’ll run through the tools you need to achieve your NYJR this year.

We’ll run through some of the most in-demand skills right now, our discounted development courses and the latest recruitment industry trends and insights.

What’s Happening in Recruitment Right Now?

40% of UK workers plan to move jobs in 2024.

With 45% of those citing wanting a higher salary as a key reason, and 29% saying they want to work in a more agile environment.

The bad news is, as we start 2024, vacancies are at a low, hiring activity has slowed and both permanent and temporary placements have fallen, as businesses are still reeling from the economic turbulence we saw in 2023.

However, we’re still seeing high levels of demand for roles with specific skill sets and requirements. And what’s more, starting salaries are shooting up for those roles, as competition for suitable candidates grows more fierce.

Here are some key trends from the latest KPMG and REC UK Report on Jobs.

  • Both permanent and temporary placements continue to decline as hiring activity slows

  • Starting salaries rise slightly as a result of the ongoing demand for workers with specific skills

  • Total number of vacancies fell for the third time in the past four months as general demand for workers remains subdued

Focus on Developing In-Demand Skills

Training and development is one of the most surefire ways to fast-track your career in 2024.

Not only has it been proven to significantly improve your confidence and performance but it also unlocks opportunities for progression, opens doors to new career pathways and helps you increase your salary.

Here are the top 10 most in-demand skills this January:

  2. Cyber security

  3. Data engineers

  4. Developers

  5. DevOps IT engineers

  6. Management
