Senior Development Lead (SQL, BI, Data) - up to 55k – Northampton

An exciting opportunity to work within a cutting edge technology environment at the heart of financial services sector. Reporting into the Senior Development Manager, you will be accountable for the development standards, practices and quality activities for all MS Technologies, particularly the SQL / BI / DATA related technologies, mainly at the data layer and not so much the User Interface.  

This will suit a senior Developer and Administrator with several years of experience covering all SQL versions and current Business Intelligence using SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, maybe so data warehouse builds who is now looking for a leadership role.

Some data warehousing experience - but all at the data layer.

The role will support the various business delivery leads by ensuring that all technical issues are resolved, appropriate standards are applied across projects and product sets, and that work is delivered to the required quality.

The role will also be responsible leading a team of 5 of varying skills and capabilities, and for ensuring that the team evaluates and adopts relevant technological and platform upgrades that support the development activities.

Key Responsibilities include:

Manage a team of technical resources, ensuring that their capabilities are developed to meet needs of the business. Has overall accountability for the ownership of the in-scope technologies and associated skills base.

Refine and build on team objectives to ensure individuals performance is managed in line with Performance Management guidelines, taking necessary actions to address shortfalls where appropriate.

Lead the Application Development team, providing technical guidance, support, management and advice in relation to their assigned activities.

Coach and mentor more junior managers in the team to ensure that the wider processes are adopted and adhered to.

Allocation of resources to project activities raised and managed by the Delivery Leads.

Actively contribute to the definition of KPIs for their area and creation of KPI reports to agreed schedule.

Govern, develop and audit the development and programming standards across all active and relevant technologies. Build processes to ensure that standards are adhered to and reported on.

Ensure that the in-scope technologies have the appropriate set of quality processes for each delivery phase to ensure and confirm the quality of our deliverables, including unit testing, code reviews, code coverage etc.

Hold regular audits of development processes and accountable for compliance that meets client and regulatory demands.

Ensure that uses the in-scope technologies efficiently and effectively, following industry trends, analysing emerging best practices, and adopting new features and methods as appropriate.

Actively pursue the adoption of tool sets within the core platforms, and other third party tools, that will facilitate the rapid delivery of quality code and applications.

Contribute to estimation activities as required.

Work with the Delivery Leads to ensure that work package activities are fully planned and costed, and are achievable.

Ensure that all work packages are built to the required levels of quality.

Create detailed designs using the appropriate artefacts and project control documents, covering the appropriate areas of component design, application work flows, static and dynamic views, database design (with the DBAs if appropriate), UI etc.

Build, using relevant tools and technologies, the code and associated artefacts required to implement the approved design documentation.

Use the relevant project control documents to ensure that appropriate levels of traceability are retained.

Support work package deliveries by ensuring that development is progressing to schedule, and that technical issues are resolved as quickly as possible.

You will enjoy and have a strong coaching and mentoring background and will have an excellent understanding of the technologies in scope (i.e Microsoft products) industry trends, development best practices and the Software Development Life Cycle.
