Technology Specialist – with a global remit
This organisation is a world leading vehicle repair group. With over 25,000 employees, they operate across over 35 countries and 5 continents. This small and agile head office function exists to provide best practice and joined up thinking and to inspire and influence group wide initiatives.
The purpose of the regional (all countries within the group) technology specialist is to support and influence IT teams in the relevant businesses across the world on making technical recommendations and designing solutions which enable and support business agility and flexibility, with the appropriate level of security, performance and reliability.
As the technology specialist, you will work closely with the group technology best practice manager and businesses to identify and share IT technology best practices to deliver efficiency and competitive advantage. The role will provide support to IT teams in order to gain a good understanding of the current technical issues and requirements, and how IT best practice can be applied.
You will inspire and influence other business units within the group to adopt similar approaches towards IT by demonstrating best in class solutions and creating a set of guiding principles & best practices.
The role will assist the many businesses to implement plans, processes and technology to deliver efficiency and to improve scoring on the current IT Controls programme. You will need to maintain extensive knowledge of current and new technologies including cloud platforms and cloud models such as Iaas, Paas, Saas , in order to share innovation and best practices within the group.
You will be able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of technology solutions including cloud platforms and have an understanding of IT Infrastructure strategy & roadmaps of the relevant business units.
You will facilitate IT technology workshops with the relevant business units and will make recommendation of cost effective technical solutions that meet the needs of the business today, while being flexible to adapt as the business grows and changes.
You will offer guidance on creating appropriate documentation related to IT systems design, architecture and maintenance and will build key vendor global and local relationships.
You will offer a view and will provider recommendations on business continuity and disaster recovery plans as well as providing documentation (Case studies, white papers) & presentations to support group IT best practice sharing activities.
It’s important to note, this role is different than a traditional daily delivery role, it’s much more focused on inspiring and influencing, it’s about support & enabling transformation through best practice.
