Job Description

Operational Acceptance Test Lead – Northampton – Financial Services

We require a Test Lead to provide strong experienced leadership for the Operational Acceptance Testing phase of the ICS Programme through to the go live of a new image-based cheque clearing platform. Your role will be to own and run the OAT tests end to end.



  • To define the detailed scope for each round of operational tests (fail-over, roll back, DR, maintainability, etc.)
  • Shakedown of to be production environments
  • Support live implementation
  • To define entry and exit criteria for each round
  • To track readiness to start operational testing
  • To manage and co-ordinate dependencies to ensure ready to start each round of testing
  • To manage day to day running and tracking of the tests to ensure all transactions and outcomes are tracked and any issues/defects are logged
  • To define detailed approach to running operational tests and define the resources required to support it
  • To secure the appropriate resources to enable the tests to run successfully
  • To prepare for and manage go no go decisions effectively ensuring that all necessarily material to facilitate the decision is available
  • To provide high quality status information on the progress during and at the end of each test run
  • To define what information is required to track the tests and ensure requirements logged and delivered by appropriate teams



  • Support the Test Management in driving testing quality improvement and active reporting on automation test coverage
  • Provide consolidated Testing resource metrics, from all Projects, and report trends
  • Ensure tools, frameworks and other development practices remain complaint with policies


Team Working

  • Strong organisational and people management skills
  • Strong Project and/or Implementation Management in a financial setting
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Background in fast paced issue and incident management
  • Understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Experience of working within a Dev-Ops environment
  • Strong information collation and presentation skills
  • Have experience of running similar tests or trials experience
  • Strong awareness of testing techniques



  • Able to communicate effectively with senior stake holders as well as technical analysts and 3rd parties
  • To be able to provide plan and manage through to completion the steps needed to deliver the OAT phase
  • Ability to set up workshops, walkthroughs, and reviews
  • Promote a high performance culture within the testing function


Skills and Experience


  • Proven experience in defining and operationalization of test automation strategy
  • Proven experience in creating and implementing test automation frameworks for large-scale systems in agile development environment ( around 10 years)
  • Hands-on test automation experience, in a professional software development environment
  • In-depth knowledge of a variety of testing techniques and methodologies
  • A solid understanding of test-driven development, continuous integration, continuous delivery both in principle and in practice
  • Experience in the following o/s and technologies desirable: MS Windows, SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, Control M, Connect Direct, & Java.
  • Experience in the following tools/frameworks useful: e.g. Selenium, SoapUI, LoadUI, Jenkins, WIX, MSI, TFS 2012, Test Manager 2013.



  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • An industry recognised qualification in the quality/testing field would be a distinct advantage
  • Knowledge of Development Methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, V Model)
  • Knowledge of cheque clearing/payment solutions desirable
  • Team motivation skills

6 month initial contract available, long term project time-lines.
