We wanted to showcase what employers and candidates can learn from using recruitment-focused psychometric testing&nbsp;\u2013 something we\u2019ve invested in to help organisations save time and money, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.identifiglobal.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/the-rise-and-rise-of-personality-profiling-in-cybersecurity-recruitment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and to find staff who will make the maximum positive impact.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tHere\u2019s what happened when we put Ol\u2019 Saint Nick in the hot seat.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\tYour results, Mr Claus<\/h2>\n<p>\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">If you find yourself <\/span>interviewing Santa (perhaps for an elf and safety role), there are a few things to note. While he scored very highly on sense of humour and optimism (as you might expect), he\u2019s not very strategic-minded and hates competition and conflict. Here\u2019s what the Psycruit report says:<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/cjrotziSKKOB_eSGxV1YbHPzSwM9WRgHvBAfeZsGU5cWCOHV9GtpD1GlPUg49K76B2elS05ABXbKG3SIrjPSMjFPiCxb-OE1UmZrBvh_Af6kr1PAPSj-ckS9c_c_W7YjVT-sOmQT\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; width: 600px; height: 480px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"263\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/L5SKN8Z3QStBuYDZu9vSvS-vvmCVh4plZvpyfTEGFIEGXZ0Q9rTeGWRaqEl5xB1o-Echg_7SXo1cBUIiPrRC5h_r2wFwUi56kmLZP9B4k9PXWywZaOXp_w9qSH2AiyDnUFWc00WV\" style=\"margin-top: 0px\" width=\"624\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">From these insights, it\u2019s possible to drive more value from our interview. We know that Santa dislikes influencing others, for example. So we might ask what happened when he <\/span>did need to persuade someone else to change their course? How did he do it, and how did the other person react? Similarly, we know Santa prefers to listen and let others do the talking. Can he describe a time when he did have to do the talking? By getting Santa to talk about instances where he was uncomfortable, we can learn about how he deals with pressure and conflict, perhaps with an unruly reindeer or Mrs Claus throwing a wobbly.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center\">\n\t<strong>&#8220;Our test shows that Santa is extremely adept at self-presentation.&#8221;<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>\n\tOf course, interviews can only tell us so much. Our test shows that Santa is extremely adept at self-presentation, offering a version of himself that is socially desirable 90% of the time. This is often an indicator of high workplace performance, but also something interviewers should be aware of \u2013 as it means Mr Claus will tell us what we want to hear.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWhat\u2019s more, we\u2019ll inevitably bring our own biases to the interview room, which will colour our judgements of the candidates in front of us.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">Part of the power of psychometric testing is in removing these biases and providing an objective assessment of how well a candidate <\/span>fits a specific role. Let\u2019s offer Santa the job.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">Selection and recruitment over, you\u2019ll now want to settle Mr Claus into his role so that he sticks around for the long-term. This shouldn\u2019t be a problem given that he\u2019s 550+ years old. But still; we know <\/span>onboarding is important.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">To make the transition into his role as smooth as possible, we can assess how Santa responds to four key emotional drivers:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/_idxvuqHevvsbF5WD0_XPhyta5mb_y7NilZiMQ4d43UdZF_u6auBUTGEUpKJa3AHBDsiYIMSGAcGi5fKt7Hm1AX5FG77WnlfPp1DYV9id91AvVq5iQ-elpgnwhEHuzmeO5BPn0Gi\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; width: 600px; height: 424px\"><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/duOlLkfekYTAxMYrCkNDGSmLUXUbHz2ywoniIM29aYUeD7JUokBjwnaXaK_oIxdohYjPBE_c2ns-uB_z4Z1V11ZmzCrEOU9zF_s1_6hFWHGgGiKVY7oib-CAvaGcaVJJd24uF3Nt\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; width: 600px; height: 347px\"><\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\tAccordingly, Santa\u2019s team should be tolerant and accepting, enabling him to be optimistic and decisive in equal parts and allowing him to express his sense of humour with authenticity. Affable chap that he is, we also know that appealing to Santa\u2019s competitive side won\u2019t work. Neither will making him work in isolation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">Finally, we must be patient with him; after all, he won\u2019t give his opinion until he\u2019s heard the views of every person in the room. This is an important consideration, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/worldbuilding.stackexchange.com\/questions\/63235\/how-many-elves-does-santa-need-to-enslave-to-make-toys-for-the-kids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">given that he presides over a workforce of around 85,851 elves<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">This is part and parcel of Santa\u2019s \u2018harmonising\u2019 <\/span>teamwork style:<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/uZrC838usi9xMflgaRGocZjZ8YCV6BqC0hAdmPTItGXf2ZBDqgDv86Ld3g6cXl5mJ094Ot1Lj_TenBDO3AzljghaY1VplfBAj3Zt313Ho4D6eVQWdD0GSAguFR8ZS5cx9klrRAoW\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; width: 600px; height: 731px\"><\/p>\n<p>\n\tTeamworking is clearly a strength of Santa\u2019s \u2013&nbsp;with a sunny, resilient, emotional style that makes him highly attuned to the quality of his working relationships.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">It\u2019s a good job Santa\u2019s role doesn\u2019t involve <\/span>selling, however, because he\u2019s not very good at it \u2013 scoring just 55\/100 against the most effective sales teams. That\u2019s mainly down to his lack of appetite and focus, which can hamper the quality of his decision-making. Again, his lack of competitive drive costs him here:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/-oM_hma7dkLpIzTgbjYiKydxySoFptv-hsBMu3JR_dbK-sldHTnDXoRPO9zRpKJ94rwy5o8YaBQ1qvfXlscDy9cWYgoCHiS7NwN1TzP7166o1E5n-FVvRQYVp7IJezeqvAoFHXVY\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; width: 600px; height: 543px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">So what <\/span>does Santa do best? Given the significance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.identifiglobal.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/personality-profiling-talent-management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">talent management plays in effective workshops<\/a>, knowing how to support our new employee and have him play to his strengths is essential.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFor this, we turn to the Psycruit Insight report, which assesses candidates according to their preferences in four key areas:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/s-u1vXTDpPEkujd9KkZtCg588M1Ht3D9XGStA4OoyktjrAjs8aOIelCix-MnSo2efmrH-I2qTBFQz06cGMER3J5g5xfzNJ7FQO8ASiKxeUDq_co53A7D_kFT3lX2FejJa1tGL8Zy\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; width: 600px; height: 537px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\tWe now know that Santa prefers to support others, and isn\u2019t too fussed about structure so long as the work gets done. He\u2019s decisive and practical, but \u2013 interestingly \u2013 prefers sticking to tried-and-tested ways of working over creative solutions.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFrom this data, Psycruit scores Santa a 7 for his \u2018potential to progress\u2019, according to his relationships, drive and learning agility.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis begs the question: should he fancy a change, what kind of role would Santa move into next?<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/pJBiS6C2mMroDJL1oddf2S3pPonl3VeggwYQfTI4GS5gtAXzGuQ_RlneHXYVWKXn3tdDMPC9tIh-6uuem4n3bJju5fsntU4JW3MkcfFJM5Zy45H1kA2TE-5jEHDblh5EaHTcGG5T\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; width: 600px; height: 404px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\t<span id=\"docs-internal-guid-715ef7ef-7fff-76c0-fa50-28fa8bb22373\">To answer that question, let\u2019s first consider how to help Santa in his <\/span>personal development. He could do with harnessing healthy rivalry as a motivator. And he should learn to balance intuitive, emotional decision-making with rational, concrete thought. (But how would he deliver all those presents, if he did?)<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\">\n\t<strong>&#8220;It\u2019s a good job Santa is willing to travel&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>\n\tWith this insight, we can help Santa look beyond his current role and even suggest the types of opportunities he might like to pursue in future &#8211; Christmas SOC Engineer, or maybe a PMO ho ho Analyst.
